What Do You Need for a Paint and Sip Party? | I Paint You Sip (2024)

If you are thinking about hosting a paint and sip party at your home, you are probably wondering what you will need for supplies. If the art instructor isn’t bringing the supplies, you will need to purchase them yourself or have your guests purchase their own.

Today I am going to talk about everything you need to host your own sip and paint party. This will include all of the paint and sip party supplies, as well as food and beverages.

If you want to learn more about what you need for a paint and sip party, keep reading.

What Does Paint and Sip Host Need to Prepare?

Here is a paint and sip supplies list that the host needs to prepare for an event:

Art Supplies

The first thing we are going to look at is all of the art supplies you will need. Keep in mind that you will need all of these supplies for each person who will be at the paint party.

Canvas

Paint and sip canvases are essential for panting as they offer a high-quality, ready-to-use surface for painting.

With standardized sizes, these canvases ensure a consistent experience among attendees and are suitable for various painting techniques.

You can also use other painting surfaces if you want to.

Paints

The most important art supply you are going to need is paint. I always suggest buying cheap sets that have about 12 colors, including the primary colors. You can always mix colors to get other colors that aren’t in the sets.

First, you need to decide which type of paint you are going to be using. The choices are acrylic paints, watercolor paints, and oil paints. For this article, we will be looking at acrylic paints.

You can get beginner paint sets at most dollar stores and department stores. They are also available at craft stores and art supply stores, but you are going to end up spending a lot more money than necessary.

I recommend using dollar store paints for beginners, and better quality paints if the guests at the painting party have some painting experience.

Paint Brushes

You are also going to need to buy sets of paintbrushes. You can get sets of 10 or more brushes at dollar stores for $3 or less, and these will do the trick nicely.

Make sure that you have full sets, so each painter will have the sizes and shapes they need for their paintings. If the host is supplying the materials instead of myself, I usually tell them to get a set that has a round brush, a flat brush, and a detailing brush or liner brush.

Brush sets usually come with more brushes than this, but these are the three that you are going to be working with for the most part.

Standing Easels

Each art station should have an easel stand. This makes it easier for each painter to be able to create their masterpiece.

These small easels can be found at most craft stores, as well as department stores and of course, dollar stores. I don’t recommend spending more than $5 each on an easel if you can manage it.

Paint Palettes

Your paint party guests will need to have paint palettes for their paints. These palettes are not just to have something to squirt the paint onto.

They are also used for mixing colors. You can buy paint palettes for less than $3 each, but if you want to save money, just get a package of paper plates instead.

Additional Supplies You Will Need

In addition to paints, brushes, and easels you will also need a few other supplies for each of your guests. For instance, each painting station needs to have one or more water cups for cleaning paint brushes.

You might need glitter, stencils and watercolor pencils if you want to explore different drawing and creative painting activities.

Other supplies you will need include the following.

Paper Towels

I suggest having at least two rolls of paper towels on the art table. When I teach at paint parties, I tend to tear off a few sheets for each painter ahead of time. If they need more, which is likely, I can always tear off more sheets.

Drop Cloths and Table Cloths

You don’t want to get acrylic paint on your table or floor. Believe me, it isn’t easy to clean it up once it dries.

I wouldn’t worry about spending a lot of money on these items. Dollar stores carry plastic tablecloths and tarps that you can use for your painting party.

Be Sure to Have Enough Seating

You will need seating and table space for each painter at the sip and paint party. If there are only a few guests, you can probably just use your dining room table. Otherwise, you may have to set up a few card tables or something similar and have enough chairs for everyone.

Don’t Forget the Wine!

A paint and sip party just isn’t the same without wine or some other alcoholic beverages. This can get pretty costly, which is why many people choose to make their paint parties BYOB.

If you are going to be supplying the wine yourself, it is a good idea to have about one bottle per guest. Check ahead of time to find out if your guests prefer red or white wine.

Set Up a Snack Table

In most cases, there are tasty finger foods at paint parties. I would suggest having things like a charcuterie board or two, some potato chips, and other finger foods.

I have often seen things like spring rolls, meatballs on toothpicks, fruit and veggie trays, and other foods that are easy to eat. Make sure the snack table is in a separate area from the painting tables.

What Do Attendees Need to Prepare?

When attending a sip and paint event, you need to make sure:

Make a reservation

Ensure you secure your spot in advance by making a reservation or purchasing tickets for the Paint and Sip event. This ensures you have a seat as some events may have limited availability.

Bring a positive attitude and an open mind

Approach the Paint and Sip event with a positive attitude and a willingness to have fun.

Embrace the opportunity to explore your creativity and enjoy the experience. Leave any expectations or self-doubt behind, and be open to trying new techniques and expressing yourself through art.

By following these tips, you’ll be well-prepared to attend a Paint and Sip event and fully enjoy the artistic experience.

Dress comfortably and protect your clothing

Wear comfortable attire that you don’t mind getting a little paint on. Additionally, consider bringing your own apron or smock to protect your clothes further, although most studios provide them.

Painting can be messy, so dress accordingly and follow our paint party outfit ideas.

Final Thoughts

There are painting kits available to use at paint parties, but these are often more expensive than buying things individually at discount stores.

As long as you have these basic supplies, as well as some cleaning products for cleaning up after the paint party, you should be all set to go.

If your guests want to bring food or drink along with them, tell them to go for it. A potluck paint party is a great idea, and it will save you money, as well as the time it takes to prepare all of the snacks.

Once you have everything set up for the paint party, you and your guests can sit back, relax with a glass of wine, and create your works of art with the help of a painting instructor.
