One Day at a Time: Season 4 | Rotten Tomatoes (2024)

100% Tomatometer 22 Reviews 82% Audience Score 100+ Ratings This comedy-drama is inspired by Norman Lear's 1975 series of the same name. This time around, the series follows the life of Penelope, a newly single Army veteran, and her Cuban-American family, as they navigate the ups and downs of life. Now a nurse, Penelope is raising two strong-willed children. When faced with challenges, Penelope turns to her "old-school" mother, and her building manager, who has become an invaluable confidant. The series offers a contemporary take on what life looks like in both good and bad times, and how loved ones can help make it all worthwhile. Read More Read Less

One Day at a Time: Season 4 | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Hank Stuever Washington Post It's possible that the show sometimes overreaches for relevance. At this particular moment, however, it's both comforting and inspiring to watch as a family navigates the very real fact that they live on top of one another. Jun 16, 2020 Full Review One Day at a Time: Season 4 | Rotten Tomatoes (2) G. Allen Johnson San Francisco Chronicle There are so many good One Day at a Time episodes, but The Politics Episode could be the best yet. It's out of left field and unexpected, and it's delightful. Rated: 4/4 Jun 15, 2020 Full Review One Day at a Time: Season 4 | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Kristen Lopez indieWire Hopefully, fans new and old will stick with the Alvarez clan as One Day at a Time remains the little engine that could and its leading ladies demand your respect. May 27, 2020 Full Review One Day at a Time: Season 4 | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Brian T. Carney Washington Blade Here’s hoping the proudly queer Alvarez family settles in for a long run on Pop. Dec 7, 2022 Full Review One Day at a Time: Season 4 | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Valerie Ettenhofer Film School Rejects Like another series that started on Netflix during the Trump presidency, Queer Eye, One Day at a Time seems acutely aware that it has the rare ability to actually change hearts and minds. Apr 19, 2021 Full Review One Day at a Time: Season 4 | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Amelia Merrill AwardsWatch The census is a smart device to introduce ODAAT's characters to new Pop TV viewers who may not have seen the show before. Audience Member I love this show, it makes me smile a lot and the characters are captivating. I love watching them 💚 Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It was just a boring show. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review lisa h I want to move into the building and be a secondn wacky neighbor to be adopted by this family. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm 5 episodes into Season 4, the first away from Netflix, and I'm so happy to see the show is just as funny, moving, well-acted, and well-written as ever. I'm thrilled that CBS has added it to their lineup and that a 5th season is in the works. The spirit of the original still runs deep in this version. I especially love the true, loving, and respectful friendship between Penelope and Schneider— something that did not exist in the same way in the original. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I love ODAAT so much! I want this family to adopt me. More to the point, I love how the show's creators have so perfectly captured the essence of classic 1970s Norman Lear, BUT in a show very much for today. Top notch. Smart, really funny, great performances and characters. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I used to love every aspect of this show, especially feeling represented within the Latino culture, as well as the show's sense of humor. However, a huge flaw within the show is its one-sided political views. I felt as though all liberal values were accepted/praised and anything aside from these liberal values was wrong/unacceptable. As someone with a neutral political stance, I highly recommend keeping politics out of your show, it's too bold for you to assume that everyone in the audience agrees with these values. Not to mention that you are communicating to young conservatives, moderates, and independents that they are morally wrong for pursuing their values. Likewise, if a person doesn't agree with the views of the president or a certain political party consider encouraging people to learn to respect different political values instead of scolding the opposite side for having different views. There are no right or wrong political views here Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
