The City Card in three steps

Get your card
Order your City Card online, or visit the I amsterdam Store at Amsterdam Central Station to buy one.

Activate your card
You choose when to activate your City Card. Activate the digital card in the app. The physical card is activated when you first use it.

Use your card
To visit City Card locations, simply show your card at the entrance. Scan your card when entering any bus, tram or metro.

How to activate your City Card
You can activate your City Card whenever you like. Buy the City Card at any time, and activate your card when you are ready to start exploring the city. If you choose to get the physical City Card, your card will be activated when you first use it in Amsterdam. If you choose to get the digital City Card you can activate your card via the I amsterdam City Card app. Download the app here.
How to get on a canal cruise
You can use your City Card to enjoy a canal cruise at all major canal tour operators in Amsterdam. There is no need to book ahead. Find a departure location near you and hop on a canal boat at a time that suits you. Find departure locations here.
How to use public transport in Amsterdam
The City Card is valid on all transport by GVB. You can recognize the GVB by the blue logo. The GVB operates the bus, tram, metro, and ferry lines in Amsterdam. The night bus is also included. You can use a physical or a digital City Card to check in and out of public transport. More on public transport.
About the I amsterdam City Card app
Get the most out of your trip with the official I amsterdam City Card app. When you choose the digital City Card you can upload your City Card to the app and use your smartphone to visit museums, attractions, and public transport. Share your City Cards with your friends by transferring the cards to their phones. Lastly, save your favourite locations to create your own itinerary.
About booking timeslots
Most City Card locations don't require you to book a timeslot in advance, but some do. Make sure to check if you need tobook a time slotin advance.
