Fall means hot cups of coffee paired with delicious treats! Apple is a must this time of year. These Apple Oatmeal Scones combine fresh apples and oats with a sweet maple glaze.

It’s no secret that Fall is my favorite time of year. Bonfires, sweaters, boots, football games, and all things apple and pumpkin!

Maple is another flavor that is perfect for Fall, so I paired it with apples to make these scrumptious scones.

How to Make Homemade Scones

Have you tried making your own scones before? Something like this would cost you a few bucks at the coffee shop, but they are actually so easy to make at home!

You don’t need any fancy tools to make homemade scones. Some baking stores sell Scone Pans but they aren’t a must, you can make them using any baking pan!

These pretty scones are great for breakfast or a coffee date. The fresh apples go so well with the hearty oatmeal texture. And the maple glaze is quite literally the “icing on top!” It’s a sweet finish for a delicious Fall treat.

Fall means hot cups of coffee paired with delicious treats! Apple is a must this time of year. These scones combine fresh apples and oats with a sweet maple glaze.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats, dry
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 stick butter (1/2 cup), softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup diced apples, I used Pink Lady but any variety will work

For the glaze:

  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and spray a 12-inch circle in the center using cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in the butter and mix until crumbly.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the egg, milk, maple syrup and vanilla. Add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix into a sticky dough.
  4. Fold in the diced apples.
  5. Place the dough in the center of the baking sheet. Use your hands or a rolling pin to press the dough into a 8-9 inch circle. Use a long knife to cut the circle into 8 even wedges.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into one of the wedges comes out clean. Let cool on a wire rack completely before adding the maple glaze.

For the maple glaze:

  1. In a small bowl, mix the butter, maple syrup and powdered sugar with a whisk until smooth.
  2. Drizzle over the cooled scones and let set before serving.
